Sarah and Nannie

Sevier & Cunningham Family Album
Including Galbreath, Blair, Dinwiddie and other related families
 

The daguerreotype above is one of my favorites:   my great-grandmother, Nannie Leila Sevier, with her aunt Sarah Jane Cunningham, taken in Jonesborough, Tennessee around the time of Sarah Jane's marriage to Rev. Nathan Bachman  in 1863.  Sarah Jane died the next year and is buried with the Seviers at the Old Jonesboro Cemetery.  A  photograph was taken of Sarah Jane alone on the same day, and Nannie wrote on the back, "Dear Aunt Sadie".

Intermarriages

      There were several marriages among the Galbreath, Cunningham, Sevier and Blair
(and some McLin) families of Greene and Washington County, and many "double cousins."

      All of the families, except the Seviers, were Scots-Irish Presbyterians.   Dr. W. R. Sevier  became active in the Jonesborough Presbyterian Church.   He married Martha Ellen "Ella" Cunningham, daughter of his senior partner, Dr. Samuel B. Cunningham
(W.R. Sevier and Ella Cunningham were third cousins on the Galbreath side of the family).  Dr. Sevier's older sister, Elizabeth, married the brother of Dr. Cunningham, Rev. John Whitfield Cunningham.

Our Descendancy:

Sevier:   Valentine Sevier and Joanna Goad;   their son Capt. Robert Sevier and Keziah Robertson;  Their son, Valentine Sevier of Greeneville and Nancy Dinwiddie;  their son,
Dr. William Robertson Sevier and his wife Martha Ellen Cunningham; their daughter Nannie Leila Sevier and Guy Ellis Sabin (my great-grandparents).

Cunningham:  Ebenezer John Cunningham and Martha Laird Blair;  their son, Dr. Samuel Blair Cunningham and Lucinda Doak Galbreath;  their daughter, Martha Ellen Cunningham and W. R. Sevier.

Galbreath:   Alexander Galbreath and Agnes Nancy Miller through two of their children:
  • Their daughter Isabel Galbreath and James Dinwiddie; their daughter Nancy Dinwiddie and Valentine Sevier;  their son, William Robertson Sevier and Martha Ellen Cunningham, and ...
